Now is the time to learn to ride a motorcycle
With the cost of travel going up constantly, the two-wheeled option is becoming more and more cost effective. With our roads becoming more congested, a motorcycle or scooter provides an easier way to get from A to B. In early 2013, the third European Directive on Driving Licences comes into force (See below). Whilst we do not know the exact details of what will be contained in the directive, it is certain to make it more difficult to get your full motorcycle licence. Next year and the year after, there will be large numbers of people all clamouring to get through before the new directive comes into force. Beat the rush, get it done now! Apart from which, we have 3 months of Summer and Autumn to enjoy. When was the last time you went out for a drive just for pleasure? Every journey should be a pleasure on a bike.

From the Press
The DSA & DfT have released their report on the Consultation on the 3rd European Directive on Driving Licences. Whilst this will be viewed by some as yet another attack on the rights of motorcyclists, it will be introduced so we have to get on with it. The main proposal introduces 3 classes of Motorcycle. These will be:
A1 - Light Motorcycles (Minimum age 17)
A2 - Medium Motorcycles (Minimum age 19)
A - Large Motorcycles (Minimum age 24)
The age limit for "Direct Access" to the Large Motorcycles will increase from 21 to 24 and there will be a tiered system of obtaining access to larger machines.
The requirements of the Directive must be introduced no later than 19 January 2013.

On another topic, the Parliamentary Transport Committee finds that the decision to introduce the Module 1 test manoeuvres with speeds of 50kph rather than 30mph was "BIZARRE". For details of their report, click... The new European motorcycle test
